In 1972, Smokey Robinson left the Miracles, the group he had been with since forming it in high school. After an incredible string of 27 Top 40 hits, Robinson went his own way, ostensibly to be more involved in his position as Vice-President of Motown Records. It didn’t take long, however, for Robinson to embark upon a solo career. “Being With You” was Robinson’s biggest outing as a solo artist, going to number two in 1981.
