Dave Marsh calls “Rock The Boat,” by the Hues Corporation, “Disco’s original trash classic.” It certainly helped the burgeoning dance club scene find its way to the disco craze. RCA released the song in early 1974, and one month later it was dead, with no chart action. Someone noticed that 50,000 copies had been sold in New York, with no radio play. The song had become a hit in the dance clubs, the DJs finally reacted, and it went to # 1.
