Berlin was an album-orientated electro-pop band from Los Angeles when they were chosen to record the love theme from the movie Top Gun. By then, the sextet had been trimmed to a trio, consisting of singer Terri Nunn, bassist John Crawford, and drummer Rob Brill. Not only did the song top the charts in July of 1986, but it also won the Oscar for Best Original Song of that year.
